Nintendo Switch 2 now supports smartphone cameras—and you only need two affordable cables to make it work.
While we knew Switch 2 was compatible with third-party USB cameras—and you might already own a USB-C compatible one—what about utilizing your smartphone's built-in camera instead?
As demonstrated by YouTube channel Will It Work?, Nintendo's new console successfully recognizes modern smartphones when connected using an HDMI to USB-C capture cable.
This setup works by connecting a USB-C to HDMI cable to your phone, then attaching an HDMI capture cable. The Switch 2 will then detect your phone like any standard USB camera.
Will It Work? recommends the free TrueVistage app to maximize your phone's camera display by removing on-screen clutter. Once connected, the Switch 2 displays your phone's camera feed—accessible through a hidden camera testing feature in the system menus.

While Nintendo sells its $54.99 official Switch 2 Camera, this bulky accessory might not be practical for everyday use. This smartphone solution offers a cost-effective alternative—especially for portable GameChat sessions when you're away from home.
The recommended cables shown in Will It Work?'s Amazon links total $30.98 (though cheaper options may exist). That's $24 savings versus the official camera ($29 cheaper than the Piranha Plant edition). Plus, you avoid buying another gadget that might rarely get used.
