Nintendo fans are fighting back against scalpers by flooding auction sites with fake listings for the Nintendo Switch 2, making it harder to find legitimate scalper posts.
Pre-order listings for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 have appeared across platforms like eBay, with prices ranging from $500 to a staggering $2,000.
Following earlier efforts by U.S. Nintendo fans who united against both the pre-order delays and inflated eBay prices, new tactics are emerging. With the Switch 2's June 5 launch just 40 days away, scalpers can now legally list consoles—as long as they specify shipments will occur within 40 business days after purchase.
To combat these listings, Nintendo enthusiasts are creating fake posts at or below retail price, pushing scalpers' overpriced offers further down search results.
One notable example is a listing titled "Nintendo Switch v2 video games console PREORDER" priced at $450, which initially appears reasonable. However, the description reveals: "PRE-ORDER SCREENSHOT Please note: You are ordering a picture of the Nintendo Switch 2. This listing is to combat bots and scalpers. No refunds. No cancels. You will receive a PNG image of a Switch 2. No console."
These satirical listings often include "read description" in the title to distinguish them from actual console offers. Another listing priced at $550 states: "Do not, I repeat DO NOT BUY this unless you are a bot or just wish to donate $550 to me. I will be shipping a laser-printed image of the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle... NO REFUNDS."
A third listing priced at $499.99 declares: "This listing is for a printed picture of my Nintendo Switch 2 console confirmed preorder... F the bots."
