Nintendo has released what analysts describe as a "cautious" sales projection for the Switch 2, reflecting ongoing uncertainty surrounding global tariffs.
In its latest financial report, Nintendo forecasts selling 15 million Switch 2 consoles and 45 million games during the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. The highly anticipated console launches June 5.
The company stated its projections account for U.S. tariff rates implemented April 10 remaining unchanged, though acknowledged potential adjustments could impact results. "We'll closely monitor market conditions and respond appropriately," Nintendo commented.
Analysts Weigh In on Conservative Forecast
Daniel Ahmad, Research Director at Niko Partners, characterized the 15 million projection as "deliberately conservative," suggesting in a tweet that Nintendo is accounting for uncertainties regarding tariffs, pricing, and manufacturing despite strong pre-order demand.
Ahmad noted Nintendo might revise forecasts upward if tariff conditions improve, but warned: "The bigger challenge involves ripple effects already impacting production and creating obstacles for a smooth console launch, not to mention potential tariff hikes."
Notably, achieving 15 million sales would make Switch 2 one of history's most successful console launches, surpassing the original Switch's 14.87 million first-year sales.
Pre-Order Frenzy Despite Challenges
Following a tariff-related delay, Switch 2 pre-orders launched April 24 at $449.99 – resulting in the predictable buying frenzy. Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery dates aren't guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
