Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement clarifying that the circulating images are unofficial. This is noteworthy, as Nintendo rarely addresses leaks directly. The statement highlights Nintendo's absence from CES 2025, thereby invalidating any Switch 2 material originating from the event as official promotional material.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, possibly due to the console's reported entry into mass production around that time. Accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 fueled the latest wave of leaks. Images of this replica quickly spread online.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the images and videos of Genki's replica were "not official." This concise denial, while unsurprising, represents a rare public acknowledgement of the ongoing speculation.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting potential validity. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an extra button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, offered additional details, including claims of magnetic Joy-Con attachment and potential mouse functionality for the controllers – claims echoed by other sources.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail release isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
