Player First Games announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, ending May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.
The game, released May 28th, 2024, will continue online play until May 30th. After that date, online functionality will cease; however, players can still access all acquired content offline via local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support.

In-game purchases are unavailable as of January 31st, 2025. Gleamium and character tokens can be used until the May 30th shutdown. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.
MultiVersus's closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a $300 million total for the games sector. This follows the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the recent departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels highlighted MultiVersus's poor performance during a November financial call, stating, "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”
Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters.
