Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases were disabled on August 23rd, 2024, and the servers will completely shut down on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons for the closure remain unannounced, although NetherRealm Studios recently disbanded its mobile games division, suggesting a broader strategic shift. Players who made in-game purchases are awaiting information regarding refunds, which Warner Bros. and NetherRealm promise to release soon. Check their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.
Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the Mortal Kombat franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The narrative centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting Shinnok's attempt to regain his power.
