Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved a remarkable feat with over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, despite receiving mixed reviews. Dive into the details of the game’s performance on PC and the challenges it currently faces.
Monster Hunter Wilds Faced Numerous Issues At Launch
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam
Despite garnering mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has attracted over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds reached an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players, shattering records set by its predecessors. Monster Hunter World peaked at 334,684 players, while Monster Hunter Rise reached 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a Mixed rating on Steam, with only 57% of 54,669 reviews being positive. Many negative reviews cite poor optimization for PC and performance issues.
Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues
In response to the negative feedback regarding MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken steps to address these concerns. The official Monster Hunter support account, Monster Hunter Status, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on February 28, 2025, offering solutions to the game's issues. The post directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which provides answers to common concerns. Capcom's suggested fixes include updating video/graphics drivers, checking for the latest Windows updates, and performing a clean installation of video drivers.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, Capcom advises players to refer to the "Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread" on the Steam community page for more detailed guidance.
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
A significant game-breaking bug is currently preventing story progression for some players. A crucial NPC fails to appear during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down, halting players' progress. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on X on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that the development team is working on a fix.
Additional reported issues include the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the criteria, and problems visiting the Smithy. The developers have already released hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these problems.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces microtransactions for character appearance changes, including for players and their Palicos. The game offers the "Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack" for $6.00, allowing players to redo their character creation process three times. This pack is available on all digital storefronts.
While players can still modify hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing, more extensive changes require purchasing vouchers. A separate voucher pack is needed for Palico edits. Additionally, a $10 voucher pack is available that permits three edits for both the player's character and Palico.
Despite these microtransactions, Capcom is providing a single free character edit voucher. These options were not available during the game's testing phase but were announced by Capcom prior to launch.
