If you were ever in doubt about whether *Rune Slayer* qualifies as an MMORPG, consider this: it includes fishing. And as any seasoned gamer knows, fishing is a staple feature of MMORPGs. Joking aside, if you're eager to dive into the fishing mechanics of *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We struggled with this initially but have since mastered the art of angling in *Rune Slayer* and are ready to share our insights. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you embark on your fishing adventure, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**—the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers near the Baracuda. Simon requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the significance of those quotation marks shortly).
Here's a crucial detail: **to catch fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to supplier for these essentials.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players recommend having at least 5 worms, we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. **Note that you cannot equip the bait**. Instead, the Worms must simply be in your inventory. Though you don't equip them, they're consumed automatically each time you successfully catch a fish.
Here's another important point: **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items in your inventory**. We initially tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Only after stocking up to 5 Worms did we start seeing results. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar for easy monitoring. With these essentials in hand, you're ready to move to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. Since you can't equip it, simply move it to your hotbar or access it directly from your inventory, and your character will ready it in both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier beside Simon the Fisherman is a prime spot.
Keep an eye on the bobber, and when it **ripples once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
However, success isn't guaranteed every time. Often, you won't catch anything at all. Other times, you might reel in junk, but the good news is **Simon counts junk as a "fish" catch**—hence the quotation marks earlier.
To complete the quest, simply cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. In our experience, we only caught two actual fish, while the rest were Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman** to complete the quest. He will reward you with a tackle box. Open it and transfer your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space for more important items.
