Exciting news for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans! Faran Tahir is set to reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the notorious villain from the opening scenes of the original Iron Man film, in the upcoming Vision Quest series. It's been nearly two decades since we last saw Raza, who led the Afghanistan terrorist group that held Tony Stark captive in a cave, only to be betrayed by Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges.
Since his brief appearance in the first 30 minutes of the 2008 Iron Man, Raza hasn't been seen in the MCU. However, much like Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk making a comeback in Captain America: Brave New World, Raza is set to return in Vision Quest. This series will follow Paul Bettany's White Vision, continuing the narrative from WandaVision, though no release date has been announced yet.
Originally, Raza's group was portrayed as a generic terrorist outfit, but the lore expanded in Phase 4 of the MCU. The group was later connected to the Ten Rings, a subtle nod to comic book lore that was further developed in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This retroactively positions Raza as a commander within the Ten Rings organization, opening up possibilities for connections between Shang-Chi and Vision Quest through his character.
Just as Deadpool & Wolverine delved into the more eccentric parts of the abandoned Fox Marvel universe, Vision Quest might be exploring forgotten elements of the MCU. Adding to the intrigue, James Spader is reportedly returning as Ultron for the first time since Avengers: Age of Ultron, though details about the show remain scarce.
