Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Captain America title with an all-new creative team and a captivating new storyline. This exciting reboot delves into Steve Rogers' earliest days post-defrosting, offering a fresh perspective on the iconic hero's journey. A highlight? The series will chronicle Captain America's very first encounter with the formidable Doctor Doom.
The creative powerhouse behind this revitalized series includes writer Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and artist Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed 2017 Marvel 2-in-One.

The story unfolds shortly after Steve Rogers' rediscovery and reintegration into the modern Marvel Universe. His first mission as a re-enlisted soldier involves a crucial collaboration with the Howling Commandos, infiltrating a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the series will eventually transition to present-day Marvel continuity, the events of this initial arc will significantly impact the overarching narrative crafted by Zdarsky and Schiti.
"I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades," Zdarsky shared. "Loving my work on the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, writing the actual Captain America title feels surreal! We're exploring Cap's early modern era adventures with a twist that will surprise readers. I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible art!"
He continued, "I've approached this like my Daredevil run—really getting into Cap's head, offering a grounded, human perspective on his experience in this new world. Steve Rogers represents the best of humanity, and I aim to capture that essence on every page."
"Captain America is one of my all-time favorites," Schiti added. "Reuniting with Chip and Frank after our amazing Marvel 2-In-One experience is fantastic. We're crafting a story that beautifully balances heart, action, and entertainment. Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."
Schiti further explained, "Chip's script is brilliant and captivating; readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He embodies truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's in his late twenties during this era!"
Captain America #1 will debut on July 2nd, 2025.
