Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Resurgence: Over 200,000 Units Sold!
Following its release late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly surpassed 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player interest in this action-packed title. Despite initial technical hiccups and some controversy, sales figures clearly indicate significant demand.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with improved quality-of-life features.
This sales milestone, achieved several months after the September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, was announced by Dragami Games via a tweet.
Celebrating Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph
Players take on the role of Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who discovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun by the undead. Using her trusty chainsaw, players engage in intense hack-and-slash combat against hordes of zombies and unique bosses, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
While the original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sold over a million units, RePOP's success is still noteworthy. The original game's appeal stemmed partly from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's narrative.
Currently, there's no news regarding potential DLC or a sequel for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. However, its strong sales suggest a positive outlook for remasters of cult classic games. This success follows the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
