Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie has found its screenwriters: John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the successful Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Daley and Goldstein will pen the screenplay for this adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. As previously announced, Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment will produce.
Beyond Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein's recent credits include writing and directing the original film Mayday, and contributing to the screenplays of The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The prospect of a Monopoly movie has circulated for years, with Ridley Scott expressing interest as far back as 2007. A 2011 attempt with Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski writing the script ultimately stalled. Further attempts followed in 2015 with Andrew Niccol, and in 2019 with Kevin Hart and Tim Story attached.
However, it appears these previous iterations have been superseded. Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has seemingly revitalized the project, offering a fresh start for this long-awaited adaptation. Let's hope this version finally makes it to the big screen.
