With an impressive 1 million copies sold at launch, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million sales soon.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail
The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, clothing maintenance, and weapon upkeep. KCD2 introduces new elements that further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval world.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players accumulate dirt and grime, eventually triggering a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
The game also introduces "handgonnes," early firearms that reflect the era's technology. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons are challenging to use, with long reload times and poor accuracy, making them a "meme weapon" but an authentic one.
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.
Post-Launch Roadmap
Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025. Free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, expected in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will roll out in Summer with "Brushes with Death," Autumn with "Legacy of the Forge," and Winter with "Mysteria Ecclesiae."
With its stellar opening weekend and a robust roadmap, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success, potentially breaking more records along the way.
