Let the demon hunting begin! Netflix has announced an anime adaptation of the popular video game series Devil May Cry, and fans are in for a treat with a newly released trailer. What makes this announcement even more thrilling is the posthumous involvement of the legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy, who will lend his voice to the character VP Baines in this new series.
Conroy, celebrated for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in numerous animated films and TV shows, brings his distinctive voice to the beginning of the trailer, giving fans another chance to experience his remarkable talent following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. His recent posthumous performance in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 was highly praised, and his role in Devil May Cry continues his legacy.
Joining Conroy in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices the protagonist, Dante.
According to Netflix's official synopsis, "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
The series is helmed by showrunner Adi Shankar, who has an impressive resume including executive producing the 2012 Judge Dredd reboot film Dredd, Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt, and The Voices with Ryan Reynolds. Shankar is also set to executive produce an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, though the project announced in 2017 has yet to materialize.
Studio Mir, the renowned South Korean studio behind The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97, will handle the production of Devil May Cry. The series is slated for release on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising an exciting new chapter in the Devil May Cry saga.
