Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. The closure affects all global platforms, but notably excludes the Asian servers in Taiwan and South Korea. These Asian versions will receive updates and continue operation.
Asian Servers Remain Operational
While the global version is ending, Nexon assures players that the Taiwanese and South Korean servers will remain active. Specific details regarding these updates are yet to be released. There's also no confirmation on a potential relaunch of the global version in the future.
Global Shutdown Timing
The precise date of the global shutdown remains unannounced. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, allowing players a final opportunity to experience it before its closure later this year.
Reasons Behind the Shutdown
Despite efforts to provide a smooth global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustrations with the game's automated elements, leading to repetitive gameplay. Further compounding the issues were technical problems, including poor optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs. These factors ultimately led Nexon to reassess its global strategy and focus on the Asian PC market instead. Nexon aims to revitalize the game's original vision on the PC platform in Korea and Taiwan.
