Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the Punisher in a thrilling new Marvel special following the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This standalone project, likened to the style of the Guardians of the Galaxy specials, promises a unique storytelling experience. Bernthal will also take on the role of writer for this project, collaborating with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story. It's so exciting."

The announcement of the Punisher special coincides with Marvel Television's plans to bring back the Defenders on Disney+. This gritty superhero team, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, had previously captivated audiences on Netflix before making the transition to Disney+ and becoming part of the MCU canon.
Winderbaum shared his excitement about working within this universe, telling Entertainment Weekly, "Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again, premiering on March 4, continues the saga that originated on Netflix. Alongside Bernthal's Punisher, the series will see the return of Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). This season introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse.
