Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to take on the role of Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the now-destroyed planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and is notably the last survivor of his world, similar to Superman.
Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character and highlighting their aesthetic similarities. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's appearance in the film, emphasizing the character's rough and gruff nature, and hinting at an impressive motorcycle. However, he clarified that Lobo's screen time will be brief, as the movie primarily focuses on Supergirl.
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is based on the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.
The first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl was shared by DC co-chief James Gunn on Bluesky in January, marking the start of filming. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be the second movie in the new DCU, following Gunn's "Superman," set to hit theaters this summer. Another DCU film, "Clayface," is scheduled for release in September 2026.
