It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it came in a form we weren't expecting. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is making a new Hyrule Warriors game: a Tears of the Kingdom prequel called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. And it's coming out this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is another exciting entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, featuring the cast of characters from the ancient history sections of Tears of the Kingdom. This game focuses on Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, where she allies with the last remaining Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle against Ganondorf and his forces. Players will experience the story of Zelda's efforts during this critical period.Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 - Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda wielding powerful magic, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders. These elements promise an engaging gameplay experience.
This will be the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which was a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its fresh take on the Breath of the Wild storyline, and it will be fascinating to see if Age of Imprisonment follows suit with its own unique narrative twists. We previously rated Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
