NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, launched on PC with a peak concurrent player count of 230,000 on Steam, achieving seventh place on the top sellers list and fifth on the most-played list. While impressive, this initial success might mask a potential player decline. The peak player count, significantly lower than the initial 300,000 Steam wishlists, hints at a possible early drop-off.
The game, slated for a mobile release in September, has already announced upcoming updates including a PvP mode for the Mayflies and Rosetta factions, and a new PvE area in a northern mountain region with fresh enemies. Once Human, set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic event leading to supernatural occurrences, is a highly anticipated title from NetEase.
Interestingly, despite its apparent readiness, NetEase has delayed the mobile launch, although it remains scheduled for September. The game's strong initial PC performance, however, suggests a level of success.
A Setback? The use of "peak" player count is crucial. The average player count is likely lower, and a post-launch decline could be concerning for NetEase, especially considering the substantial number of initial Steam wishlists.
NetEase, known for its mobile game dominance, is making a significant push into the PC market. While Once Human boasts impressive graphics and gameplay, a rapid shift in their core audience might prove challenging.
