League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Make a Comeback
League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests after listening to its community. Riot Games shared a developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, detailing the upcoming changes, complemented by a dev update video on their YouTube channel.LoL admitted that recent changes didn't meet fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a significant demand from fans. LoL recognized, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and Additional Fan-Driven Changes
Riot Games has also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
Responding to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins.
To enhance player accessibility, LoL is reducing the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, LoL is reversing its decision to run Clash less frequently. The game will return to a monthly Clash schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and a regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
In response to fan requests, LoL is bringing back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop will make its first appearance of the year in patch 25.06, followed by the Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
