Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's particularly vulnerable to water and ice. Aim for the head, which boasts a 4-star weakness, or the wings, which have a 3-star weakness.
Avoid targeting the torso, as it's heavily armored. If hitting the head is challenging, focus on the tail instead. The legs are also not ideal targets due to their protection. For status ailments, all are effective except Stun and Paralysis, given its lightning nature.
Use a Flash Pod
A strategic approach to defeating Rey Dau quickly involves using a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, allowing you to land precise hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, target its horns, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Surviving the fight becomes easier with gear that enhances your elemental resistance. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and offers resistance against Lightning and Fire. Complement this with a meal that boosts your elemental resistance.
If dodging proves difficult, position yourself near Rey Dau's legs. The monster primarily attacks in front and behind, so staying close to its legs minimizes your risk of being hit.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau's tendency to fly from one location to another during the battle requires strategic use of the environment. In the Windward Plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to stun the monster briefly. However, be cautious when Rey Dau returns to its nest, where it may unleash a follow-up lightning attack that can stun you. Exercise patience to avoid a fatal zap.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds
Beyond battling Rey Dau to the death, capturing it offers substantial rewards. Reduce the dragon's health until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. At this point, deploy a trap to capture it.
Given Rey Dau's immunity to lightning, avoid using Shock Traps. Instead, opt for a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up with a Tranquilizer to prevent escape. You have only a few seconds to act, so be prepared.
