Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature that allows players to transform into a Ghoul, enhancing their experience in the radiation-filled world of Appalachia. Dive deeper to explore the ghoul-related features and the new level 50 character boost that comes with this update.
Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
The latest update for Fallout 76 lets players take on the role of a Ghoul as they traverse the wasteland. Bethesda announced on their website on March 18 that Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live, bringing a host of ghoul-specific features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to revamp your C.A.M.P.
In this update, players can embrace Ghoulification by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey leads them into a new area of the Savage Divide, where they'll encounter unique characters who assist in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks.
The Feral ability replaces the traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering boosts based on the Feral meter's level. If the meter hits 0%, gameplay shifts dramatically: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, but lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
On the other hand, the Glow ability lets players consume radiation, making them immune to diseases and mutations, and even causes them to glow. This ability not only boosts maximum health and heals damage but also enhances Ghoul-specific Perks, referred to by Bethesda as "Gherks."
Players have 28 perks to choose from, including two new legendary perks exclusive to Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as these benefits are no longer relevant.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes easier as a Ghoul, thanks to the new abilities and Gherks. However, interactions with certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking access to some questlines.
To circumvent these restrictions, players can use disguises provided by the new NPC, Jaye, enabling interaction with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Keep in mind, this is a permanent choice as you can't redo the "Leap of Faith" questline. Alternatively, players can opt for the Ghoul Retransformation on the Character Screen for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're new to the wasteland or a seasoned resident, the Level 50 Character Boost in Season 20 can fast-track your journey. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost provides various perks and advantages, allowing quick access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
The update also includes a range of bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as improvements in accessibility, combat mechanics, weapon damage, and more. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming update on April 29, "The Big Bloom," which is part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 faced initial challenges with bugs and issues. However, with continuous updates culminating in Season 20, the game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" review on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
