Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed several speculations in a subsequent interview with The Verge.
The mockup showcased a noticeable increase in size, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck. A significant feature is the magnetic Joy-Con controllers, featuring SL and SR buttons that utilize magnets for attachment. A release button on each Joy-Con facilitates detachment. Despite the magnetic design, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con functionality during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates an optical sensor. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensors. The mockup also displayed a second USB-C port and a mysterious "C" button, the purpose of which remains unknown.
While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. This highlights a deliberate design choice by Nintendo.
