Garena Free Fire is making its Esports World Cup debut on Wednesday, July 14th, a highly anticipated event taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This tournament, a spin-off of the Gamers8 event, is Saudi Arabia's latest attempt to establish itself as a global gaming hub. While ambitious and impressive in scale, questions remain about its long-term success.
The tournament unfolds in three stages. Eighteen teams will compete, with the top twelve advancing from the knockout stage (July 10th-12th). A Points Rush Stage on July 13th will give teams a chance to gain an advantage before the Grand Finals on July 14th.
Free Fire's popularity continues to rise, recently celebrating its 7th anniversary and even launching its own anime adaptation. However, the Esports World Cup, while impressive, presents logistical challenges for those outside the highest competitive ranks.
