The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a beloved Fortnite skin (despite his helmet!), recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus. This sparked excitement, but a controversy quickly followed.
Initially, a special Matte Black style for the skin, originally offered to Xbox Series S|X players, was announced as being discontinued. This announcement was poorly received, as the style had previously been advertised as permanently available.
The backlash was swift, with some fans citing potential legal violations and even threatening a class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games quickly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This seems to be the most sensible outcome. Given the holiday season, upsetting players with such a move would have been unwise.
