The topic of game preservation often sparks heated debates, with opinions ranging from accusations of piracy to the simplicity of emulation. However, there are companies like Evercade that provide official and accessible ways to enjoy classic games without the steep prices of the second-hand market.
Evercade is expanding its Super Pocket line of handhelds, which already includes Capcom and Taito versions. In October 2024, they will launch the Atari and Technos editions, each featuring games from their respective platforms. Additionally, a limited edition of the Atari handheld will be available in a woodgrain finish, with only 2600 units produced, set to go on sale soon.
With handheld gaming devices primarily used for retro emulation, it's refreshing to see more official options available. Evercade has built a solid reputation over the years, though some might view the limited run of 2600 woodgrain Atari editions as a gimmick—unless, of course, it's genuine woodgrain.
The Super Pocket's compatibility with Evercade's existing cartridges allows you to take your retro game collection on the go and easily switch back to your main console when you're done.
The new Super Pocket Editions will be available for purchase starting in October 2024.
