In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey involves significant choices impacting the main storyline, and you'll often be accompanied by powerful companions in battle. While companions fight alongside you, occasional control is possible. Utilizing companions is often more effective than playing solely as the Wanderer. Here's how to switch characters:
Character Switching in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Character switching is limited to battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, the companion selection is the last option in the war council menu. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right.
Underneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This meter fills as you fight, accelerating with:
- Parrying attacks
- Perfect dodges
- Officer assaults
- Weapon Arts usage
Most combat actions contribute, albeit at varying speeds.
A full companion blue meter activates the "Change Character" button. Press and hold this button (View on Xbox, C on PC, Touchpad on PlayStation) for about a second to switch.
Playing as Companions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Companion switching is best utilized during intense battles. Companions are exceptionally strong, but control is temporary (approximately one minute). The blue meter depletes, indicating remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and access to effective combat arts.
Switching initiates a powerful attack, so target an enemy strategically. Your companion also has a full Musou gauge and health bar, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
