Dragon Quest XII: Development Update and Confirmation
Series creator Yuji Horii recently provided an update on the development of Dragon Quest XII, assuring fans that the game is still actively in production. During a livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the title, releasing information "little by little."
This marks the first substantial update since May 2024, following the announcement of the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division was also previously noted.
Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates had sparked concerns amongst fans regarding the game's status. However, Horii's comments effectively dispel these concerns, confirming Dragon Quest XII remains in development.
Announced during the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The recent success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, exceeding sales expectations with over 2 million copies sold, further underscores Square Enix's commitment to the series.
