Will it be challenging to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch or throughout 2025? According to Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser, the company is confident it will have sufficient units to satisfy consumer demand through the holiday season.
In an IGN interview discussing the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted a “robust” positive response to the Switch 2 but emphasized that Nintendo has a strategy to ensure a “steady product supply” for 2025. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.
“Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently shared that we project 15 million Switch 2 units and 4.5 million original Switch units for the fiscal year,” Bowser stated.
“This projection reflects our goal to replicate the success of the original Nintendo Switch in its first 10 months. In the U.S., we are confident our production and supply chain will meet consumer demand. The strong early response to the Switch 2, evident in preorders, has been encouraging, and we’re prepared to maintain a consistent flow of units through the holidays.”
This is welcome news for U.S. consumers eager to purchase a Switch 2 this year. Preorders for the console, priced at $449.99, faced challenges after a delay caused by tariffs, with orders opening on April 24. Demand has been high, and Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date is not guaranteed.
Bowser’s recent statements, however, offer reassurance that those who have preordered a Switch 2 will likely receive one. Visit IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide for additional details.
Concerns have also surfaced about potential tariff impacts on the Switch 2’s price and its games. When asked about Nintendo’s commitment to the $450 price point for launch and beyond, Bowser remained noncommittal but hinted at efforts to maintain affordability.

Bowser responded cautiously, noting that Nintendo had “set expectations” by announcing the Switch 2 at $450 and the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World bundle at $500.
“We established those price points for the single unit at $449 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $499,” Bowser explained.
“Announcing these prices, even amidst new tariff announcements, was important to reassure consumers about affordability. The situation remains fluid, and it’s hard to predict changes in the coming weeks or months. Still, we are dedicated to making our products, including the Switch 2, as accessible as possible under current or evolving market conditions.”
