While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news for fans: the developers have resumed work and recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.
This update significantly enhances the technical aspects of the games, but that's not all. It introduces support for multiplayer modifications, compatible with Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, and BOOM. Cooperative play now allows all players to collect items, and includes an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle over 100 subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, surpassing previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other parameters such as game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't necessary to understand the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages or its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
