A new Street Fighter film has found its director - or should we say, its "challenger."
The Hollywood Reporter reveals Kitao Sakurai, known for his work as writer, director, and executive producer on the surreal comedy series The Eric Andre Show, will helm Legendary Entertainment's upcoming Street Fighter adaptation.
Capcom reportedly maintains significant creative control over the project, with the movie already scheduled for release on March 20, 2026.
This marks the latest attempt to translate Street Fighter to cinema, though none can top the 1994 cult classic featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and the unforgettable Raul Julia as M. Bison - a true masterpiece despite mixed critical reception at the time.
While casting details remain under wraps, fans can anticipate seeing their favorite World Warriors brought to life on screen.
Originally, Talk to Me directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou were attached to the project before exiting last summer. Sakurai's involvement suggests Legendary may be embracing a more unconventional, comedic approach - an intriguing direction considering Street Fighter's inherently over-the-top nature.
While we await more details, fans can enjoy Street Fighter 6, which recently welcomed Fatal Fury's flame-haired femme fatale Mai Shiranui to its roster. See our complete Street Fighter 6 review for more details.
