Boss fights in video games can be challenging, especially when you're not fully prepared for all the phases. In *The First Berserker: Khazan*, the Blade Phantom boss battle on the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level in Stormpass is no exception. Here’s a detailed guide on how to defeat the Blade Phantom.
Phase 1
The Blade Phantom, a ghostly figure haunting Khazan, is your first multi-phase boss. You'll encounter it in a castle setting with floors flooded by a crimson liquid. Here are the key attacks you need to watch out for during this phase:
- A six-hit combo consisting of four punches and two kicks, with the second kick being a delayed attack.
- A three-hit combo with two punches followed by a downward kick.
- A four-hit combo starting with a right hook, followed by two kicks, and ending with a leaping kick smash.
- A three-hit combo with flashing punches, culminating in a grab that you must dodge.
In addition to these melee attacks, the Blade Phantom can summon a giant hammer, causing damage and red spikes to appear in front of it. If it switches to a spear, be ready for a quick throw followed by a teleporting smash. When wielding a blade, it will engage in a swift six-hit combo. It may also disappear and dash around before attacking.
Mastering the timing of these attacks is crucial. By parrying or dodging effectively, you can find windows to attack and deplete its stamina, setting up opportunities for a Brutal Attack. Continue this strategy until the boss's health is reduced by about half, triggering Phase 2.
Phase 2
In Phase 2, the Blade Phantom initiates with four claw attacks followed by a high spear throw. After the spear lands, quickly move away from the impact zone to avoid damage from the subsequent leaping swipe. This is followed by three greatsword slashes and a hammer smash.
Aside from the new claw attacks, the boss retains most of its previous moves but introduces a spear thrust and follow-up, as well as swift dual-wielding attacks ranging from four to six hits. The Blade Phantom also increases its teleportation frequency. When wielding the greatsword, be on the lookout for multiple slashes and the final Burst Attack, signaled by a red P-like symbol on the screen. To counter this, use the Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B) to parry successfully, replenishing your stamina and opening the boss up for more damage.
When the Blade Phantom's stamina is depleted, take the opportunity to attack aggressively, but initiate the Brutal Attack only when the window is about to close. This strategy maximizes your damage output and enhances your chances of victory. Upon defeating the boss, you will be rewarded with 8,640 Lacrima, Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
