Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for overcoming his two-phase battle.
Phase 1: A Solo Showdown
This initial phase is a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery, launching projectiles at varying distances. Close-range attacks involve four stones requiring swift evasion, while long-range assaults unleash twice the number, easily dodged by circling him. Maintain distance during his large-scale stone attacks to avoid significant damage.
While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao employs close-combat combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid damage. He also utilizes unblockable attacks (red aura), including massive rockfalls and clone summoning. The best strategy is to maintain distance until these attacks conclude. Equip a sword for optimal damage output.
Resource management is crucial. Your healing capacity is limited (likely four times, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are located near the arena entrance; utilize these for healing during strategic retreats.
Phase 2: Aided Assault
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite and healing opportunities (grab those meat buns!). Zhang Jiao introduces tornado attacks; be mindful of the wind currents while eliminating his troops.
Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, demanding the defeat of 300 soldiers within a short timeframe. Failure results in a devastating attack. He also unleashes lightning strikes; observe the closing ring on the ground and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is efficient for clearing large numbers of soldiers.
Foiling Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice returns him to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory Secured
By following these strategies, you can successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
