Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Keanu Reeves. Find out more about this exciting prospect!
A Night City Reunion?
In a recent interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves reunite), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be phenomenal, particularly with himself and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa."
Elba, who played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC, and Reeves, who portrayed Johnny Silverhand in the main game, share a screen presence Elba believes translates perfectly to the big screen.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk adaptation is highly feasible.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond the potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. The prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, offering a glimpse into the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025. And, excitingly, a new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series is in the works! CD Projekt Red is actively developing multiple projects, promising a vibrant future for the franchise.
