In the latest "here comes a new remake" news—or, if you're a bit more optimistic, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—a brand new adaptation of Cujo is set to sink its teeth into audiences soon.
Netflix has announced that they will produce a new film version of Stephen King's chilling novel, according to Deadline. The project is being helmed by Vertigo Entertainment founder and producer Roy Lee. However, it's still in the early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members attached yet.
Originally published in 1981, Cujo was swiftly adapted into a 1983 cult classic horror film by screenwriters Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping tale follows a determined mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who faces off against a rabid dog to protect her young son. Trapped in a car with a dead engine, they must battle for survival as Cujo—transformed from a sweet pet into a deadly menace after being bitten by a rabid bat—stalks them relentlessly outside their vehicle, with the added threat of heatstroke looming.

Oz Perkins’ take on King’s short story The Monkey was released in February, and fans have much to look forward to this year, including Glen Powell's version of The Running Man and JT Mollner’s adaptation of The Long Walk, both produced by Lee and Vertigo Entertainment. Additionally, the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry is set to premiere on HBO. Another classic, Carrie, is being reimagined as an eight-episode series on Prime Video, brought to life by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
Stephen King enthusiasts have been treated to a feast of adaptations lately, and with the new Cujo film on the horizon, the gourmet offerings just keep coming.
