Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has rescinded its planned mid-season rank reset. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed a system dropping players four divisions mid-season.
The initial proposal for a rank reset every 45 days proved highly unpopular, with players citing its discouraging effect on competitive progression. Dev Talk 11 clarifies that no mid-season reset will occur; players will retain their existing rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, albeit with a reduction to a six-division drop.
Planned Updates Remain On Track
Despite the rank reset reversal, other anticipated updates are proceeding as scheduled. The addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games continues its commitment to introducing two new playable characters per three-month season.
Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional end-of-season rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, are also confirmed. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be released.

Marvel Rivals highlighted its responsiveness to community feedback, emphasizing its commitment to player engagement. The rapid turnaround from the initial announcement to the reversal demonstrates a willingness to adapt based on player input. The developer stated that community feedback is crucial to the game's development and success.
