Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is set to revolutionize the gaming experience with its VR version, slated for release this Spring 2025. Dive into the details about the features and updates surrounding Civ 7 VR.
Civilization 7 Coming to VR This Spring 2025
Civilization 7 VR Exclusively on Meta Quest 3

Sid Meier's Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is making a bold leap into virtual and mixed reality, exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S platforms. Announced at the Civ World Summit Event on February 8, 2025, by 2K Games and Firaxis Games, Civ 7 VR marks the franchise's first venture into immersive gaming.
Civ 7 Executive Franchise Producer Dennis Shirk shared his enthusiasm in a recent blog post on the 2K website, stating, We're just days away now from the full launch of Civilization VII and look forward to ushering in a new era of strategy excellence for our fans!
Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, echoed this sentiment, saying, With the recent release of Meta Quest 3S and our strongest games and entertainment portfolio yet, it’s an awesome time for mixed reality. Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of that momentum: it’s a genuine Civ experience made specifically for deep strategy fans.
It's worth noting that while Civ 7 will be available on PlayStation consoles, the VR version will not be released on PSVR2 at this time.
Board-Game Like Construction and Online Multiplayer
Civ 7 VR introduces a unique Command Table feature, allowing players to maneuver around the world and strategize as if they were playing a tabletop game. Players can zoom in to inspect the finer details of buildings and units or view the game from a higher perspective.
The game supports both virtual and mixed reality modes, with seamless switching between them. In VR mode, players find themselves in an ornate museum overlooking a personalized vista based on their chosen leader. In mixed reality, the Command Table integrates with the player's physical surroundings.
Civ 7 VR offers various multiplayer options, including single-player, co-op, and competitive modes. Up to four players can join a game using Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets, with the option to include AI-controlled opponents. Players can collaborate with friends or compete against other human players, all while seeing each other as their chosen world leaders across the Command Table. To engage in online multiplayer, players need a 2K Account and a Meta Account.
Firaxis Games Respond to Player Feedback
Firaxis Games has actively responded to feedback received during Civ 7's early access phase. Launched on February 6, 2025, for Deluxe Edition and Founder's Edition buyers, the game has garnered mixed reviews on Steam, with many players highlighting issues with the User Interface (UI).
In response, Firaxis Games has committed to enhancing the game's UI, aiming to make interactions more intuitive, improve map readability, and address other areas of polish such as formatting. They also plan to introduce community-requested features, including teams in multiplayer games, a variety of map types, and more.
A quality-of-life update is scheduled for March, focusing on UI adjustments, AI balance and improvements, diplomacy and crises adjustments, and additional bug fixes.
Civilization 7 VR is anticipated to launch in Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, though a specific release date has yet to be announced. Meanwhile, the standard version of Civilization 7 is currently in early access and is set for a global release on February 11, 2025, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
