While initially absent from Civilization VII's launch roster, the possibility of Mahatma Gandhi's return as a DLC leader is very much alive. Read on to discover why Firaxis Games made the decision to exclude him from the initial lineup.
Hope Remains for Gandhi and Other Familiar Civ Leaders
Following a February 13, 2025, IGN interview with Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach, a glimmer of hope emerged for Gandhi's return. While not confirmed for immediate inclusion, Beach hinted at his potential appearance as future DLC.
During the interview, Beach addressed the absence of several classic civilizations and leaders, including Great Britain and India. He explained that the sheer number of popular choices necessitated some difficult omissions to make room for exciting new additions. "We haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated, acknowledging the community's concerns. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to have a few fresh ones." He further clarified that while some civilizations were left out initially, Firaxis is considering their inclusion down the line, leaving the door open for Gandhi's eventual return.
Given the extensive DLC history of Civilization VI, the prospect of Gandhi appearing in Civilization VII as DLC seems highly plausible. However, a precise release date remains unannounced.
