Hollow Knight fans speculated that Nintendo's April 2 Direct might finally announce Hollow Knight: Silksong for the Switch 2. Here's why this rumor gained traction.
Silksong Hype Resurfaces Among Hollow Knight Community
A Tweet and Birthday Cake Spark New Theories

The Hollow Knight fanbase reignited their anticipation when developer William Pellen's Twitter activity coincided with Nintendo's Switch 2 announcement on January 16, 2025.
Pellen's cryptic January 15 tweet—"something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow"—appeared to reference Nintendo's January 16 Switch 2 reveal. While fans immediately questioned Silksong's involvement, it was Pellen's subsequent cake-themed profile picture that really set the community abuzz.
Following the Switch 2 announcement that promised a Direct presentation on April 2, 2025, sharp-eyed fans discovered Pellen's cake image matched a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe published by Bon Appétit—specifically on April 2, 2024.
The intrigue deepened when users found a comment reading "mmmm tasty" on the recipe article, though it couldn't be confirmed as Pellen's. Fans immediately drew connections, with one pledging to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2, 2025. Another humorously reviewed the recipe's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to both the game and Nintendo's upcoming Direct.
While Pellen's profile change undeniably hints at something, whether that "something" relates to Silksong remains pure speculation at this point.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Five-Year Journey

Originally announced on Valentine's Day 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was positioned as a direct sequel featuring Hornet's adventures in a silken kingdom. The game was planned for release across all major platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
After previewing Christopher Larkin's soundtrack in late 2019, developer Team Cherry entered a lengthy silence until February 2022, when Pellen reassured fans development was ongoing. The team broke their silence again in June 2022 with a gameplay trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, confirming Game Pass availability.

Despite initial hopes for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin announced in May 2023 that development required more time. "The game has grown significantly in scope," Griffin explained. "We're committed to polishing every detail to meet our standards."
Five years post-announcement, the Hollow Knight community continues monitoring every potential clue about Silksong's release, though concrete information remains scarce beyond confirmation that development persists.
