Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as the vampire slayer. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is rumored to be a recurring one.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon is not involved in this reboot.
Whedon, who oversaw the original *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* television series and its accompanying movie, faced accusations of fostering a toxic work environment during production of both *Buffy* and its spin-off, *Angel*.Plot details remain scarce, aside from the central focus on a new Slayer and the possibility of Gellar's return.
The original series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to battle demons, vampires, and other supernatural creatures. She was aided by her friends Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris, and her Watcher, Rupert Giles.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired for seven seasons (1997-2003), spawning the spin-off Angel and continuing its story through canonical comic books.
