Avowed expands on the rich Fantasy world of Eora from the Pillars of Eternity series, offering players a variety of races within the Kith group. However, the character creator's options are somewhat limited. Here’s a detailed look at the playable races in Avowed.
Humans (Known In-Universe as Folk)
Humans, known as Folk in Avowed, are the most common race you'll encounter both in the game world and the character creator. As part of the Kith group, which includes various sentient, civilized species, humans offer extensive customization options. Avowed provides numerous presets alongside detailed character customization tools. Players can choose from a wide variety of facial presets, adjust skin tone with a slider, and select from diverse hair textures, ensuring a broad range of representation for players.
Elves
Elves are another selectable race in Avowed. They resemble humans closely, with the primary differences being slight variations in default facial structures and, of course, their iconic long, pointed ears.
Godlikes
The third playable race option in Avowed is the Godlike. Although all Envoys in the story are Godlike, players have the choice to display or hide Godlike features. These features include unique hair and facial structures, ranging from subtle to surreal. At launch, Avowed offers 14 Godlike facial features and four Godlike hair options, applicable to all characters regardless of race or body type.
What Gender Options are Available in the Avowed Character Creator? Answered
In Avowed, players can select from four Body Types: two masculine and two feminine, available for both Humans and Elves. Additionally, there are two voice options for each gender. Players can also choose their character’s identifier, which determines the pronouns used for them—options include he, she, and they.
Several Races Present in Avowed Are Not Playable
While Avowed features a diverse cast of NPCs representing various Kith races, not all of these are available for player characters. Races such as Dwarves, semiaquatic Aumaua, and the diminutive, hairy Orlans can be seen throughout the Living Lands but are not selectable in the character creator. However, Obsidian Entertainment might consider adding more race options in future updates or DLCs for Avowed.
