Another mobile game has announced its end of service (EOS), and this time it's Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. Koei Tecmo and Akatsuki Games have revealed that their RPG will soon be shutting down, but this decision only affects the global version. Launched globally in January 2024, the game's brief lifespan suggests it struggled to retain its player base. We'll explore the reasons behind this EOS decision in more detail later.
It's worth noting that the Japanese version of Atelier Resleriana is still going strong, with no plans to close down. Launched in September 2023, it's already preparing for its 1.5th anniversary celebration in March 2025, which adds a layer of irony to the situation. Why? Read on to find out.
When Is the Atelier Resleriana EOS?
The global version of Atelier Resleriana is set to shut down on the same month the Japanese version celebrates its 1.5th anniversary—March 28th, 2025. While Japanese players will be enjoying Chapter 22 (Part 2), global players will be concluding their journey with Chapter 21 (Part 1). The in-game purchase system has already been disabled, but players can still use their Lodestar Gems until the end. Koei Tecmo has committed to providing new content and events until the shutdown.
In a bittersweet twist, the global version had just celebrated its first anniversary on January 25th. So, while the celebrations were short-lived, it's time for players to start saying their goodbyes.
Why Is It Shutting Down?
The developers have released a statement indicating that after careful assessment, they found it impossible to maintain the game at a level that satisfies their players, leading to the decision to shut down the global version. Indeed, Atelier Resleriana failed to make a significant impact on its audience.
Just a couple of months after its launch, players began voicing frustrations over the game's gacha system. Despite the appeal of the main characters, the gameplay and monetization model, along with an aggressive power creep, did not meet player expectations. These factors ultimately contributed to the announcement of the EOS for Atelier Resleriana Global.
