Campsite/cabin animals stay until dismissed. Warping to your campsite during the three-hour cycle reveals visiting animals for additional friendship points. The "Tell me a story!" option sometimes offers gift-giving opportunities (+6 points regardless of the animal's preference).
Crucially, only red dialogue options award friendship points. For example, "Change outfit!" only yields points the first time you select it.
