Journey back in time with Marvel Snap's Prehistoric Avengers season! This season introduces Agamotto, a powerful 5-cost, 10-power card and likely the most potent addition to the Season Pass. Let's explore the best Agamotto decks currently available.
How Agamotto Works in Marvel Snap
Agamotto's ability reads: "Game Start: Shuffle 4 Ancient Arcana into your deck." These Arcana are:
- Temporal Manipulation (1-cost): On Reveal: Give Agamotto +3 Power. Put him into your hand if he’s not in play. (Banish this.)
- Wombs of Watoomb (2-cost): On Reveal: Afflict an enemy card here with -5 Power and move it right. (Banish this.)
- Bolts of Balthakk (3-cost): On Reveal: Next turn, you get +4 Energy. (Banish this.)
- Images of Ikonn (4-cost): On Reveal: Transform your other cards here into copies of the highest-Power one. (Banish this.)
Notice the "Banish" keyword. Ancient Arcana have no power cost, classifying them as Skill cards, not character cards. They're played, then banished, never entering the discard pile. This means they can't be retrieved. You can combo them with Wong, but not Odin; King Etri won't pull Agamotto, and Ravonna Renslayer won't discount their cost. Mister Negative is also ineffective. Their diverse effects make Agamotto difficult to categorize into a single archetype.
Best Agamotto Decks in Marvel Snap
While Agamotto's own archetype may emerge later, he currently excels in two deck types: Wiccan Control and Push Scream.
Wiccan Control
This deck (see Untapped list here [ttpp]) features several Series 5 cards, making it expensive. However, many cards are replaceable with similar-cost alternatives. Bolts of Balthakk provides crucial late-game energy even if you don't draw Wiccan early. Temporal Manipulation helps you access Agamotto faster, Wombs of Watoomb disrupts opponents, and Images of Ikonn creates powerful board states, particularly with Cassandra Nova or Galacta. This deck benefits from the synergy between Agamotto's Arcana and existing high-power cards. Note that Cassandra Nova's increased usage is also due to the synergy with Eson, another new card.
Push Scream
This deck (see Untapped list here [ttpp]) is also expensive, featuring several Series 5 cards. Replacements exist for some cards (e.g., Nightcrawler for Hydra Bob, Jeff for Iron Patriot). While only Wombs of Watoomb directly synergizes with Agamotto, the other Arcana enhance the deck's flexibility. Temporal Manipulation makes Agamotto a powerful turn 6 play, especially after using Bolts of Balthakk. Images of Ikonn can create multiple copies of Scream, Spider-Man, or Cannonball for devastating board control. This deck becomes less predictable and offers a counter to Luke Cage and Shadow King strategies.
Should You Buy the Prehistoric Avengers Season Pass?
Agamotto is a powerful card, comparable to Thanos or Arishem. His potential for disruptive synergies makes him a valuable addition, and he's likely to shape future meta. If you have the budget ($9.99 USD), the Season Pass is a worthwhile investment.
