Capcom has cleverly hinted at Resident Evil 9 in a way that's as subtle as a chainsaw to the face. To celebrate reaching an impressive milestone of 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong whispering to a notorious villain, then shifts to Leon S. Kennedy surrounded by an infected crowd sporting party hats, casually making their way toward a church.
The scene then transitions to a rock tune with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, while Leon enthusiastically pumps his fist in the air. In the background, a rustic sign boldly states "Thank you for playing."

However, turn that "Thank you for playing" sign on its side, and the boards cleverly form the Roman numeral "IX," which is, of course, the number 9. While this could be seen as mere coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem pointed out that the lower plank on the sign was absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was added deliberately. This has sparked plenty of speculation among fans.
One fan, clearly taken aback by the discovery, commented, "I know what you did here," followed by a wide-eyed emoji.
Adding fuel to the fire, Capcom has officially announced that the upcoming mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi stated, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Though not confirmed, rumors suggest the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
