Digital Revival of Devarattam
This application was developed as part of my initiative, "Digital Revival of Devarattam," and is dedicated to Kalaimamani Mr. M. KUMARARAMAN, a retired teacher, Kalaimani Mr. M. KANNAN KUMAR, and Kalaimani Mr. K. NELLAI MANIKANDAN from Zamin Kodangipatti.
These distinguished individuals were honored with the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards respectively for their contributions to Devarattam.
This app is a tribute to these respected legends, my Guru Mr. E. RAJAKAMULU, and the cherished masters of Devarattam.
The Devarattam app aims to promote awareness of Devarattam and honor its award recipients.
It features detailed information about the dance form and its celebrated artists.
Devarattam is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu.
Historically and in the present day, it is performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community.
The dance comprises 32 to 72 steps, with 32 basic movements forming the foundation; the remaining steps are variations derived from these basics.
Devarattam dancers hold a kerchief in each hand and wear Salangai (ankle bells) on each leg.
They perform the dance while playing a traditional musical instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi.
